Phil SmurthwaitePhilip has a long history in music education and performance. He and Michael have over 15 years experience performing at bush dances Australia wide, appearing at over 100 schools. After achieving Grade 8 AMEB, Phil completed an Advanced Certificate in Jazz and Popular Music, and in 2008 was awarded the Gordon Alumni of the Year, in recognition of his musical services to the Geelong community. After graduating Phil travelled overseas, playing in London based indie-pop band Flaming June.
Returning to Australia saw Phil resume instrumental teaching both at his private studio, as well as various schools in the Geelong region. Other groups Phil has worked with include Tamlin, Gypsy Davy, Donegal Express,The Stonecutters, Myra McKae Band and sci-fi rock band Red Paintings. Phil’s violin also features in the ABC animation series Dust Echoes – Morning Star. |
